Ways To Grow As A Business Owner
Where You’ll Be In 5 Years Will Depend On The Books You Read, The People You Associate With And the Actions You Take
The ActionCOACH founder, Brad Sugars, says that our business will be the average of the 5 business owners we spend the most time with. As I reflect on that for my business, it really makes me think about the actions I’m taking to surround myself with successful business owners who will help me to grow and develop. When I tell other people this idea, the typical response is “Tim I already have too much on my plate, I don’t have time to hang out with business owners”. If you remember back to my article on The Point of Power, https://timcampsall.actioncoach.com/2019/09/28/powerful-or-powerless/, this sounds like an excuse doesn’t it?
Take Ownership, Accountability & Responsibility For Your Growth
Step back and think about ways you can take ownership, accountability and responsibility for your personal and professional growth and development. Here are some suggestions:
- Reading books of successful business owners is a great way to spend time with them
- Joining a networking group is another way to spend time with business owners while also generating leads for our businesess
- Joining a BookCLUB can combine reading books with networking with other business owners
- Attending a seminar, workshop or a conference will give us opportunities to learn from successful business people
- Watching YouTube videos
- Engaging with business owners on LinkedIn and setting up coffee meetings
One Positive Step Forward Is Better Than Nothing At All
Our focus should be about progress, not perfection. When we strive for perfection, we actually paralyze ourselves from taking any step forward out of a fear of not being good enough, not being perfect or a fear of failure. One step I’ve taken is I’ve invested in myself by hiring a very successful coach from within our company to guide and direct me to be the best that I can be.
